My name is Caitlin Sciscoe - I’m a 26 year old artist, born and raised in Atlanta, GA. I was homeschooled growing up, all the way until college, and I believe that set a very sturdy foundation for the rest of my life. In homeschooling, I had more freedom to explore areas that really interested me, and I was constantly challenged to learn & try new things above my grade level and to think critically for myself. I was able to venture into the world of the arts early on, and by the time I graduated high school, I had already developed a portfolio strong enough to gain me a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I would go on to study photography and digital media.

When I’m not retouching, I’m usually reading, writing, hoop dancing, or cooking up some vegan food (my cooking is the bomb). Music is a huge part of my life - even though I don't play any instruments except the ukulele (just for fun). I love going to see live music, and I listen to everything from techno to hip hop, to classical, to 80’s pop/rock. I appreciate artists who are unique and not afraid to be vulnerable by trying sounds that no one else is making.

To me, art is not just something pretty to hang on the wall (although it certainly can be that too) - it is a way of thinking, a lifestyle, and an expression of ideas that goes beyond what words alone can portray. Creativity is about adopting different perspectives until you see a problem or situation in a way that you couldn’t think of when you were in your old position, or old mindset. It is only when you have chosen to view the world from as many angles as possible that you can find your own unique viewpoint.

To be an artist is to accept the responsibility of using your creative voice, and it takes a lot of courage. To be successful as an artist, you must always be learning new skills, assimilating information and viewpoints that are often challenging, and pushing the person you were yesterday to do better and aim higher. It took me a long time to push through my anxiety and start owning up to what I feel is my responsibility to help create a kinder, more creative world through my art.

My goal is to live a life of creative health - to take care of myself, grow constantly, use my voice, and leave everything on the table. I strive to connect with others through empathy so that I may educate and inspire them to do the same. The people that I meet truly amaze me, and I hope that we can all work together to grow our society in a way that supports each individual by encouraging unique ideas and expressions. I believe that when we spend our time taking care of ourselves, and looking out for each other, the world becomes a much better, more inviting, and more fulfilling place to live.
